CoverCrypto | Learn about xPubs for UTXO blockchains

What is xPub?

An xPub, or an extended address, is a type of public key representing a collection of public keys or addresses. All child public keys, which are used to view your transaction histories and receive crypto transactions, are derived from it.

What blockchains and wallets use xPubs?

Bitcoin (BTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), Cardano (ADA), Litcoin (LTC) & Bitcoin Cash (BCH) are the most popular chains that use Extended Public Key. Any blockchain that uses the concept of unspent transaction outputs (UTXO), where the full balance of a wallet is spent on every transaction, is prone to use xPub, yPub or zPub.

Is it safe to share my xPub Key?

Yes, itโ€™s safe to share your xPub. However, you need to be aware that anyone that has access to your xPub key can inspect your account, so you might want to keep your xPub address as private as possible. CoverCrypto requires your xPub from certain wallets so that your account can be monitored for theft transactions.

Why is my xPub sometimes different in my wallet and on CoverCrypto connection?

Mathematical calculations may be made to convert the format of the key in a supported format to suit Vezgo's connector, so you may sometimes see a different xPub value in your wallet compared to what is shown in the Connection box for that connection in your CoverCrypto account. Rest assured if you connect your account, it is your account even if the xPub values do not match.
