A cryptoasset is a cryptographically secured digital representation of value or contractual rights that uses a form of distributed ledger technology and can be transferred, stored, or traded electronically (Gov.uk, 2024).

We use the term ‘cryptoasset(s)’ as an umbrella term when referring to any or all of the following:

  • Cryptocurrency

  • NFTs (non-fungible-tokens) and other tokens

  • Digital/blockchain assets
